Mr. Rufus Sullivan

Mr. Rufus Sullivan, 77, of 3835 Shamel Street departed the life we know on Monday, November 7, 2005 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1928 in Simpsonville, SC, the son of the late Jeff and Maude Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, former owner/operator of the Exxon Service Station on Patterson Avenue, Sunoco Service Station on Liberty Street, Etna Service Station on Patterson & Glenn Avenue and Bilo Service Station on Glenn Avenue. He was a retiree of the City of Winston-Salem.

A daughter, Phyllis Sullivan Linville, and his wife, Myrtle Durham Sullivan preceded Mr. Sullivan in death.

Mr. Sullivan leaves loved and cherished memories to his children, James (Jackie) Sullivan, Dexter (Peggy) Sullivan, John (Sylvia) Sullivan, Kenneth (Cynthia) Sullivan, Bernese (Alvonzel) Cason, Tyneria Tanner of Winston-Salem, NC, Richard J. Bailey (Suzette) of Salisbury and Linda (Harry) Thompson of Greenville, SC; a son-in-law, the Reverend James F. Linville (Renita) of Winston-Salem, NC; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. Also memories are left to a longtime friend, Walter Moore; a special community of neighbors on Shamel Street and Shamel Court, including Reginald Scarborough, Russell Rice and Bonita Bruton and his special friends who met every morning at Bojangle's on Patterson Avenue; two brothers, Eddie (Alene) Sullivan of Simpsonville, SC, Willie Roy Sullivan of Plainsville, NJ; one sister, Helen (Ernest) Pyles of Greenville, SC; three sisters-in-law, Susie Sullivan of Piscataway, NJ, Mildred Harris of Taylors, SC, Juanita Sullivan of Naperville, IL; two brothers-in-law, Walter (Joyce) Durham of Woodruff, SC and Charles Durham of Greenville, SC; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2005 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from Noon until 1 p.m. Friday at the church.
