Obituary

Keith Jerome Cotton, 50, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026.

Born on February 2, 1976, Keith was the beloved son of Clifton Cotton and the late Roxanna Dixon. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought strength, wisdom, and kindness to those who knew him.

Keith grew up in Hillsborough, NC where he loved riding his bike through the neighborhood, playing basketball, spending countless hours running around and making memories with his siblings and cousins. Those early years helped shape the warm, easygoing spirit and love of family that remained with him throughout his life.

Keith graduated from Orange High School where he was on the basketball team and played the saxophone in the marching band. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem State University and obtained a master’s degree from High Point University.

Keith was a dedicated and hardworking professional who built a successful career with State Employees’ Credit Union. He began his journey as a teller and through his strong work ethic he advanced through the organization over the course of 19 years. Keith ultimately became a Vice President, earning the respect of colleagues and members alike through his integrity, professionalism, and genuine care for others.

Keith loved playing, watching, and coaching sports; especially cheering on his son and the Steelers. He enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors hiking along trails with creeks and streams. He was also known for his unique hobby of collecting pens, a reflection of his appreciation for craftsmanship and detail.

Keith was preceded in death by his twin brother, Kevin S. Cotton; mother, Roxanna Dixon; and stepmother Ann Wilson.

He leaves loving memories to his devoted wife, Sara Cotton; daughter, Jordan Cotton; son, Jadin Cotton (Yaire); granddaughter, Aleyda Cotton-Paz; father, Clifton Cotton; sisters, Erica Pitts (James) and Corliss Fingers (Earnest); brother, Calvin Dixon; nephews, Earnest “Lenny” Fingers and TeKorey Moore; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and love.

“I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” — Job 19:25 (NIV)
