Martha Marie Rhynehardt March, 82 was born to the late Thomas Junior and Millie Amos Rhynehardt. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Davie County Training School. She later attended Winston-Salem State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing while also becoming a Registered Nurse. While at WSSU, she married the love of her life and faithfully walked beside him as a devoted wife and helpmeet for 62 years. During her undergraduate years, she was also initiated into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She furthered her nursing training at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating in 1968, she began her nursing career at Kate Bitting Hospital. Shortly thereafter, Martha joined North Carolina Baptist Hospital, where she faithfully served for 33 years in the operating room as Head Nurse and Clinical Supervisor.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband of 62 years, Robert March; three loving and steadfast daughters, Tunya March-Mayfield (Randy), Gerena M. Bray (the late Fernando Bray), and Kendra D. March; four beloved grandchildren, Dionne Mayfield-Carelock (Brandon) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Santanya (Tia) Mayfield of Winston-Salem, Tortia L. Mayfield of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Jaylon Bray (Ayanna) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and eight treasured great-grandchildren. In each of them lives the legacy she so beautifully embodied: faith in God, strength, love, and unwavering devotion to family.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Kerry Doran March; her cherished granddaughter, Jaida Monique Bray; and her brother, James Harrell Rhynehardt.
