Mrs. Sarah Retha Smith

Loving…Giving…Teaching…Thank you for being my Mother and my Friend…
Our beloved mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister aunt and friend  

Mrs. Sarah Retha Smith, 74, of 1763 Green Cedar Lane passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after an extended period of illness. She was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church.
Mother always said, “God‘s got a way that is mighty sweet; he will life your burdens right off your feet.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Walter Ray, Sr.; sister, Betty Jean Tobe; brother, William Bill Ray; husband, Aubrey Hayes Smith; son, Hayes Smith, Jr., and loving grandsons, Tommy Smith and Audrey Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Mary Vereen (Fred) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Patricia Diane Barnes (Chuck) of Charlotte, NC and Antoinette Thigpen-Peay (Dr. David Peay) of Winston-Salem, NC; three sons, Willis Smith (Clara), Thomas Smith (Lucille) and Larry Smith (Katherine) all of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Rosa Lee Stephens and Annie Lois Frost (Charlie) of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers, Walter Ray, Jr. (Clementine) and John Ray both of Winston-Salem, NC; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. She leaves to mourn her death two very close friends, Mrs. Lois France of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs. Delois Solomon-Mosley “Jeff” of Washington, DC. Sarah also grew to love and cherish a most delightful friend and caregiver, Mrs. Flora Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Reverend Charles Leak, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
