On June 16, 2021, God called one of his angel's home, Mrs. Zilphia "Zip" Edwards.
Zilphia was the daughter of the late Lennew and Marzella Gilchrist. She was born on January 06, 1951 in Fairmont, North Carolina. She received her early education from the Robeson County School System and later completed some college courses at Forsyth Technical Community College. After moving to Winston-Salem, she became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Zilphia was employed by Hanes Brand Inc. for nearly thirty years. During her exemplary career with HBI, she worked in various capacities such as machine operator, account specialist, fork lift driver, and inventory management.
Zilphia was an avid reader, crafter, floral arranger, artist (oil painting) and loved to travel. One of her most memorable travel experiences was a month-long European vacation with her sister, Barbara. Also, she was a "Friends of the Library" volunteer at the Southside Library in Winston-Salem.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Bo Gilchrist; and sisters, Betty Tubbin, Thelma Goins, Pearl Richmond, Bishop Clara Gerald, and Clementine Jones.
Surviving to cherish in her loving memory is her husband of fifty years, David Edwards; daughter, Rosalind Edwards of Winston- Salem; "canine" son, Colby Edwards of the home; brother, Randolph Gilchrist of Marietta, NC; sisters, Jean Smith of New Milford, CT, Linda Spears of Bridgeport, CT, and Barbara Gilchrist of Washington, DC; brother-in-law, Michael (Diane) Edwards of Lumberton, NC; sisters-in-law, Virginia Davis and Peggy Epps of Fairmont, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, God-children, cousins, and beloved friends.
There will be no public viewing ahead of the services.
Private funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021.
