Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Mrs. Yvonne Clayton Johnson of 4210 Jasmin Court, Winston-Salem, was born Aug. 13, 1948, in Anderson, S.C., to Katie Lee Brown and the late Romeo Dean Clayton. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Mrs. Johnson worked for Bowman Gray School of Medicine and formerly Amos Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital for 34 years until her health declined. She was a member of Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served as president of the Gospel Choir, past adviser of the Caldwell Special Youth Choir, head of the Youth Department, vice president of the Mary Magdalene Missionary Circle and van driver. In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her loving memories her loving husband, Willie A. Johnson Sr., of the home; four sons, Anthony Clayton, Derrick Fuquay, Willie (Penny) Johnson Jr. and Semaj (Kendra) Clayton; a daughter, Jackie (James) Clayton-Davis; six grandsons; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; four brothers; two sisters; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church on 900 File St., Winston-Salem, with the Rev. William Brown officiating. Internment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the church.
