"When all is said and done, there is just one thing that matters….all my treasures will mean nothing….only what I've done for love…Lord, you looked beyond me as a sinner and found in me an angel. Now and ever after, you have shown me Heaven is my true home"
On Friday, February 1, 2013, God in his infinite wisdom saw fit to bring home his own angel, Willie Mae Reid. She was born on March 7, 1926 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Willie P. and Julia Little. She was married to the late James E. Reid, Sr. She was educated in the Winston-Salem school system and retired from Zabo Food Services after many years of service.
Willie Mae truly loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of Canaan Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served on numerous committees and was a former church secretary.
She enjoyed cooking, reading and ceramics. She was also an avid NFL football fan, a passion she shared with her children and grandchildren.
Willie Mae was loving, kind and warmhearted. She was also honest and forthright. She loved her family very much and often opened her home to others to provide a loving and safe environment for them.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories three sons, James (Sharon) of Greensboro, NC, Willie and Dennis Reid both of Winston-Salem, NC; one daughter, Phyllis Reid Ellis of Brockton, MA; two sisters, Mildred Sharpe (Frank) of Cleveland, Ohio and Delores Reese of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Clifford Little (Carolyn) of Winston-Salem, NC; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Canaan Baptist Church with Reverend Warren Napper officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
