Willie James Long

Mr. Willie Long, known as "Jimmy," was born February 16, 1948 to Hattie Long and Daniel Lee Longshore in Winston-Salem, NC.  He departed this life unexpectedly on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Willie attended the local public schools, graduating from Atkins High School in 1967.  Willie was employed at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 36 years. He was good with his hands and loved to draw and work with carpentry.  He also enjoyed bowling and in earlier years, was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church bowling team.

Willie was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie Long; father, Daniel Lee Longshore;  sister, Anne Long; and stepson, Rehk Imhotep.

He leaves to cherish most precious memories, his wife, Maxine Hicks Long; adopted daughter, Chanelle Hicks of Winston-Salem, NC; stepchildren, Larry (Gabby) Hicks of Hampton, VA, Daisy Hicks of Charlotte NC, and Theophelous Hicks of Winston-Salem NC; great granddaughter whom he raised as his own, A'nayjah Bullard Winston-Salem, NC; a niece whom he raised as his own, Alice Long of Winston-Salem, NC;  sister in-law, Evelynn Lee of Norfolk, VA;  brother- in-law, Alford (Fayee) Cloud of Harrisburg, PA;  several nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids, friends, including his dearest close friends, Billy Phillips and Anne Shyber, both of Winston-Salem, NC.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am Saturday at the Church.
