Mr. Willie Henderson, affectionately known by his family and friends as "Junior", "Pops", and "PaPa", departed this life for his eternal home on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at his residence. He was one of three children born to the late Mrs. Irene Henderson and the late Mr. Willie Henderson, Sr. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Candice Goodine; one son-in-law, Mr. Robert Kearney; and his sister and brother-n-law, Mrs. Henrietta Smith (Eugene) Edwards.
Willie was born in Darlington, SC and attended the Darlington County Schools. In his early years he moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and was employed with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He worked there for over 30 years and retired in 1991.
Junior was well known in the community. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends at Bojangles where they would set for hours talking about their jobs, the good ole days and telling stories of life lessons from the past. Junior was known for his kind gentle spirit, tender heart and compassion for everyone he met. He was dedicated to his family, always wanted to make sure they were ok. He attended Macedonia TVP Holiness Church
He leaves to cherish in his passing three daughters, Ms. Teresa Mickens-Holland, Ms. Tusha Eaton of the city, and Mrs. Rotunda Kearney of Durham, NC; three sons, Mr. Willie James Henderson of Columbia, SC, Mr. Everette Henderson of the city, and Mr. Terrance Henderson of DeSoto, Texas; three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Henderson of DeSoto, Texas, Mrs. Deitra Henderson of the city, and Mrs. Veda Henderson of Columbia, SC; one son-in-law, Mr. Bobby Holland; a loving sister, Mrs. Gearldine Jones; a special niece, Mrs. Maggie McMoore; a dedicated friend, Ms. Pauline Eaton; twelve grandchildren, Natisha Jenkins, Kishon Gappison, Sieda Gappison, Everette, Jr., Luka Blake, Erin Price-Pyles, Brenden Moir, JaM'ar Joyner, Selena Davis, Jordan Henderson, Josh Howard, and Steven Howard; two dedicated nieces, Ms. Sonja Jefferies and Ms. Rena Williamson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 12noon until 5:00pm Friday, July 31, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.
Private services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
