Mr. Willie Smith Eccles, 79 of 1423 Harrison Avenue passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on June 24, 1928 in Clemmons, NC the son of Alexander and Eliza Wharton Eccles.
Smith was a dedicated member of the Carver Road Church of Christ. He demonstrated this dedication by working with the church treasurer and leading songs. His favorite hymn was #398- "Everybody Will Be Happy Over There." He attended Carver High School where he also drove a school bus from Clemmons to Winston-Salem, NC. He served as a military policeman in the Korean Conflict and worked at RJ Reynolds for 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 54 years, Mae Belle Eccles of the home; one son, Kevin (Kim) Eccles of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Renae Eccles and Katonya Eccles of Winston-Salem, NC; four brothers, George E. (Viola) Eccles of Norfolk, VA, Frank L. Eccles of Luxembourg, Dallas C. (Ruth) Eccles of Clemmons, NC and David L. (Francine) Eccles of Columbia, MD; one sister, Bobed E. Murray of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Alex and Kelsi Eccles; a devoted niece, Mary Ann Robinson; two devoted friends, Rodney Nash and Chuck Jennings; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Carver School Road Church of Christ with Brother Jefferson Caruthers officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Thursday at the Church.
