Obituary

Mr. Willie Junior Cannon, affectionately known as "Cannon," 63, of 4202 Morningside Drive, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born January 13, 1943 in Winston-Salem, NC to McClester Gertrude Cannon and Cole B. Cannon Sr.

He grew up in the Dreamland Park Community and was educated in the Winston-Salem school system graduating from Carver High School in 1961. At an early age, Cannon joined the Dreamland Park Baptist Church and was a faithful member. He later became a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member of the Nurses Board and the Male Chorus. Cannon worked for more than 30 years with Forsyth County Health Department retiring in 1999. His retirement allowed him to pursue on a fulltime basis his true passion in life-golfing. He was an extremely good competitive golfer who loved to play in tournaments and regularly enjoyed "whipping" his buddies on the courses. One of his greatest joys was sharing his skills and knowledge of the game with others. He was also a competitive bowler and was a valued member of the Camel City Bowling Club until he became ill early in 2006. In addition, anyone who knew Cannon knew he had a great love for cars. He treated each one he owned as his personal pride and joy.

Cannon was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Parriman Sr.

He will be missed for his humor, his concern for others and his generosity. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 32 years, Marye Hardie Cannon; two daughters, Sabrina Nicole Cannon of the home and Teresa Ferguson of Brooklyn, NY; one grandson, Frederick Ferguson of Charleston, West Va.; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Cole B. Cannon Jr. of Sunnyvale, Ca.; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Cannon of Sunnyvale, Ca. and Earlene Hardie Cox (Maurice) of Armonk, NY; five brothers-in-law, James Hardy (Jackie) of Sunset Beach, NC, Alexander Hardee of New Braunfel, TX, Ronnie Hardie (Jeanette) of Winston-Salem, NC, Jim Randy Hardie of Shallotte, NC, and Anthony Hardie (Cherita) of Atlanta, Ga.; seven nieces, Nanette, Elease, Renee, Ashley, Michelle, Brandea, and Crystal; six nephews, Charles, Eric, Lamar, Mark, Jovan, and Michael.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Pastor James F. Linville officiating. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm Wednesday at the church.
