Mr. Willie "Billy" Lee Brooks, 91, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this life peacefully, leaving a legacy of love, strength, and community dedication.
Born in Augusta, GA and raised in Winston-Salem, NC, Willie was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. He was the proud son of the late Lucille and Bennie Brooks and was also preceded in death by his brothers, George Heartfield, Charles Heartfield, and George Brooks.
As a young man, Willie found his passion in boxing, training at the YMCA on Patterson Avenue. His commitment to youth and community development continued into the 1950's, when he coached the Grave Avenue Braves, inspiring and mentoring countless young lives through the sport.
A true entrepreneur, Willie owned and operated Billy's Arcade on 25th Street, a vibrant neighborhood staple and gathering place. After years of dedicated service, he later retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.
Willie was a man of quiet strength, profound wisdom, and unwavering love for his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, Tyrone (Betty) Conrad; daughter, Willette Conrad-Wilson; caring sisters, Lillie Mae and Mary Brooks; beloved brother, Robert Brooks; his dedicated granddaughter, Michelle (Dexter) Treadwell-Williford; dedicated grandson, Monta Conrad; grandchildren, Stephen Conrad, Tadzia Treadwell-Lewis, and Christopher Conrad; along with a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
