William James Tillman Jr. was born November 24, 1939 in Winston Salem, NC to the late Mr. & Mrs. William and Julia Perrin Tillman Sr. He departed this life on February 12, 2011 after courageously battling cancer without complaint. William was known as "Bro" by all who knew and loved him.
William was a Private First Class soldier who fought for our American freedom in the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the army on April 30, 1969.He worked for RJ Reynolds for 30 years and retired as a head mechanic in October 1995.
He was a tall, handsome, well-dressed man in dark shades, with a walk that you could set to music. William was proud, hard and working, and had a love for motorcycles and nice cars. He was content with a little castle on Goldfloss Street in Winston-Salem. Music seemed to set his mind at ease, and his favorite past time was the game of solitaire.
As his health declined, "Bro" moved to Charlotte, NC to live with his daughter Tyra and wonderful son-in-law Kenneth and received the very best of care.
He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Myra McCoy (Antwan) of Greensboro, NC and Tyra Sanders (Kenneth) of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Wilhelmena Williams (Julian) of Roseville, CA; grandchildren, Kendall and Cameron Saunders of Charlotte, NC, and Treven, Chelsea, and Zion McCoy all of Greensboro, NC; two nephews, Pastor Ivan Williams (Kathleen) of Roseville, CA and their two children, Imani and Ivan Williams, Jr., and Shawn Williams of Sacramento, CA; and a host of family and friends.
