Obituary

William Aldean Segers 71, affectionately known as "Deanie" transitioned from earth to eternity on Sunday, March 11, 2012 surrounded by family. He was one of 11 children born to the late Eugene and Rebecca Segers on January 6, 1941 in Winston-Salem, NC. A native of Winston-Salem, NC, he attended the Forsyth County Public School System and graduated from Winston-Salem State University.

William served his country in the Airborne Division of the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the military service, William moved to Washington, DC where he worked as a computer analyst, married Zandra Whiting and started a family. Next to God and his family was his love for Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served until his health prevented him from doing so. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, fishing, and seeking out new business ventures.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rebecca Segers; and four brothers, Curlee, John, Lonnie, and James Segers, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Zandra; ten children, Sabin, Kai, Cydra, and Questa Segers and Demetras Friday of the city; Sherry Jackson of Maryland; Anine (Michael) Cureton and Zoe Segers of Alpharetta, GA; Eyris and Octavia Segers of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Milton (Constance) Segers and Truitt Segers; four sisters, Theresa McCullough, Janet (Ronald) Lockhart and Cynthia (Noble) Speas of the city and Iris Harris of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

To God be the glory for the wonderful life he lived.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, March 16, 2012 at Russell's Funeral Home Chapel with Wardlow Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Friday at the Funeral Home Chapel.
