Obituary

Mr. William "Bill" Samuel Carpenter, Jr. was born Sunday, August 24, 1958. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 9, 2007 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Carpenter was born to William Samuel Carpenter, Sr., and Alice Mariah Carpenter (Horton). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ms. Annette Hauser.

His interest in music began at the age of 4. At the age of 11, he was inspired by many local pianists and organists; Adel Scott Norton, the late Alfred Archie, Walteria Spaulding, Aldine Griggs, Thelma McCoy, M. "Pete" Thomas and Rudolph Sullivan.

Mr. Carpenter was educated in the Forsyth County Public School System. He was a 1976 graduate of Parkland High School. He took musical courses at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD., and at NC School of the Arts. He also attended the Walter Hawkins Workshop in Washington, DC. He was "Pianist of the Year" in 1984 and "Mr. Music" in 1985.

He has conducted numerous seminars and workshops around the Triad, and taught and guided numerous students in Music Theory and Logic. Mr. Carpenter has played for several churches. He has received numerous honors and recognitions. He was honored by Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 1994 as organist and director.

Mr. Carpenter touched many lives with his "Gift", the Gift of Music. He could make a piano sing a song like no other. He gave all glory and honor to God. "Christ Did It All!" was his favorite song.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Loved ones who will always cherish his memories are his son, Julian Brooks of Winston Salem, NC; three sisters: Joann Horton, Beverly Beal and Wilma Carpenter, all of Winston Salem, NC; one brother: Wayne Stephen Carpenter of Winston Salem, NC; one aunt, Thomasine Carpenter of Winston Salem, NC; a devoted finance', Nellie Brown of Walnut Cove, NC; 6 grandchildren: Katrece L. Brooks, DaQuan D. Gray, Christopher Chaplin, Jr., LaChrisa Chaplin and Christopher Chaplin, III, all of Winston Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Friday, July 13, 2007 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church 3230 Heitman Dr., Winston-Salem, NC. Family visitation will be held from 7 pm until 8 pm Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Mr. Carpenter's residence, 600 Lynhaven Dr.
