Obituary

Mr. William Alexander Reid aka "Reid" transitioned into eternity on Friday morning, August 27, 2021 at Lexington Medical Hospital in Lexington, NC. William  was born in Winston-Salem, NC on December 12, 1940 to the late Hilda Mae Reid and Alexander. He attended Atkins High School in Winston-Salem. Later in his early 20's he moved to Baltimore, MD where he worked in shipping and receiving for the Baltimore Envelope Company. He was a member of Perkins Square Church and served on the usher board. He met Ophelia (of Williamston, NC) in Baltimore. William moved back home to Winston-Salem and worked for many years at Hills Department Store and JC Penny.

He was a member of Saint Matthew Apostolic Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Joseph Lowery, his childhood friend. He was an avid reader and had a very high IQ.  He liked to laugh and joke with people and kept up with all the happenings in the world.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Alexander; brothers, Glendale Reid and Randolph Reid.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ophelia Reid of the home; two daughters, Rev. Dr. Claire Robinson (Rev. Dr. Michael Robinson, son-in-law), and Tracey Reid; five grandchildren, Chanda Reid, Demarco Burnette, Bryony Burnette, Jazzlyn Gwyn, and Joy Sturdivant; a loving sister, Minister Natalie Willis; devoted nephews, Raheine Reid, (Winston-Salem), and Ricardo Reid (Scranton, Pennsylvania); nieces, Tammie Rice (Baltimore, MD), and Angela Woods (Winston-Salem); brothers-in law, Oscar James (Philadelphia, PA), Ralph Ore, Frankie Ore, and Darnell Ore (Williamston, NC); sisters-in-law, Shirley Ore, and Gladys Ore (Williamston, NC); and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021.
