Mr. William Jevon Pouncey life's journey began April 10, 1941 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. He was one of eight children born to William and Irene Pouncey. William departed this life on January 19, 2021. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. William attended the former Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC graduating with honors. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Winston-Salem State College (University).
William was a faithful member of Carver Road Church of Christ. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of dedicated service. William's hobbies were fishing, playing golf and listening to jazz; he had an extensive collection. He was always willing to help neighbors cut grass and had an immaculate yard. William was a regular at most grocery stores. He loved providing food for people in need. If there was a fish fry, he was the one to call. Many will swear he fried the best fish in town, and he loved every minute of it.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Irene; brothers, Grant, James, and Aldean; and sisters, Juanita, Doretha, and Inez.
He is survived by his loving devoted wife, Athenia; daughter, Kellie; son, William "Von"; grandchildren, Jamiee Pouncey and Lamont "Duke" Pouncey; brother, Roscoe Pouncey (Clara); sister-in-law, Barbara Pouncey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, January 29, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021.
