William Henry McKoy, "Bill", of Winston-Salem, NC transitioned to his heavenly home on April 30, 2024 at 10:15am after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Vina McKoy; wife, Rosie Mae McKoy; three brothers, Pete McKoy, Luther McKoy, and Eddie McKoy; two children, Abra Allen and Kathy Allen; one grandson, Shawnta Staggers; one son-in-law, Byron Robinson; and one brother-in-law, Johnny Williams.
William will be remembered by his children, Johnny "Mot" (Sandra) Staggers, Mildred Staggers, Pamela McKoy, Myra (Theodore) McCollum, Shannon McKoy, and Bijon McKoy; loving Godson, Henry Brown; six sisters, Mary (Clarence) Spaulding, Isabelle Williams, Adde Dukes, Dorothy (Clarence) Purnell, Joyce (Gerald) Beaty, and Venora (L.V.) Lewis; two brothers, Lee (Carolyn) McKoy and Reverend Earl McKoy; grandchildren, Monte Summers, Tahji (Sha'Von) Allen, Shayla Robinson, Shanika (John) Levons, Corey (Chante') Stewart, Lasea Lindsay, Shannon M. McKoy, Latia Allen, Kayla Staggers, Zyon McCollum, Omni McCollum, and Sydney Stevenson; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
William McKoy was a retiree of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and was the owner of McKoy Construction. He was a cement contractor who was well known throughout the city of Winston-Salem.
William was a committed and faithful member of Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he was a dedicated Deacon for more than 50 years as well as a choir member. He was known to lead the church in a devotional hymn.
William had a giving spirit and was always willing to help others in their time of need; he was a prayer warrior and loved the Lord immensely.
William was adored by all that knew him, especially his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Paw Paw". He was also known as the master of using 4 screws, 4 tires, and some electric tape to make a vehicle. He loved fishing with his wife and growing a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables in his 3 gardens.
William Henry McKoy will always be remembered by the inspirational scripture, "Love covers a multitude of sins." – I Peter 4:8
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Monday, May 6, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Chad Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the Church.
