Obituary

Mr. William Frederick Hairston, 87, of 2500 Atlee Street, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on April 19, 1919 in Winston-Salem, NC to Rufus Reynolds Hairston and Emma Hughes Hairston.
He graduated from Winston-Salem Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University) with a B.S. in Education. He also attended West Virginia State College (now West Virginia State University) and NC A&T State University.
Mr. Hairston served his country during WWII in the United States Army.
He worked as a teacher in Lee County, Montgomery County, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Systems. He retired from the WSFCS in 1978.
He was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church where he served on the Men's Usher Board and the Laymen's League (St. Paul Group).
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Olivia Fulp Hairston of the home; one daughter, Melanie Yvette Hairston of Florida; one sister, Mildred Hairston Batchelor of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 12 Noon from the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Serenus T. Churn officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30 AM until 12 Noon on Saturday at the Church.
