On June 12, 2008 William Edgefield answered the call to come home to be with the Lord.
He was born March 13, 1920 in Charleston, SC to Estelle Edgefield Hamp. He was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church.
Mr. Edgefield served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. After his tour of duty, he worked several jobs. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in the engineering department as a concrete finisher for twenty-nine years.
He was preceded in death by his mother; one son, Lavern Green; and his grandson, Eddie Lee Green.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Leila Edgefield of the home; three daughters, Jeanette Mellerson of Baltimore, MD, Michelle Jackson and Edith Walser both of Winston-Salem, NC; one son, Eddie Green of Kernersville, NC; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two cousins, Ruth Edgefield Milton and Charles Edgefield of Charleston, SC; special friends, Little John, Big Jimmy and Butch who visited him regularly.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 1:30pm on Wednesday at the Church.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks for the love, support, and kindness shown to them during his illness. Thanks to Dr. Grote and the staff at Forsyth Medical Center, the Hospice staff: Jo, Barbara, Ann, and Gloria.
