William Henry Cain, III was born to William Henry Cain Jr. and Mary Owens Cain on July 30,1946 in Winston Salem, NC. He departed this life on January 19, 2024.
William was a 1964 graduate of Atkins High School. He furthered his education at Morehouse College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and at North Carolina A&T State University earning a Master of Science degree in Counseling.
He was employed at Winston Salem State University before his retirement serving as Director of the Counseling Center and as University Registrar. He was dedicated to being an advocate for the students at the University.
William was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church joining under the ministry of Dr. Jerry Drayton Sr. and continuing under the ministry of Dr. Kendall Jones.
William, affectionately known as "Mr. Handsome" was an avid lover of music and books collecting both throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Jessie Williams "Mama"; his grandfather, William Henry Cain, Sr.; his brother, Randell Cain, Sr.; and two sisters, Norma Cain Jones and Gloria Cain King.
He leaves to cherish his memory devoted daughters, Tashika Lopez Russell (Travis) and Lisa Lopez Alameda (Edwin); sisters, Ruby O. Cain of Winston Salem, NC and Margaret Cain Bailey (Johnnie) of Greensboro, NC; brother, Malcolm E. Cain (Carolyn) of Catonsville, MD. He also leaves to cherish his memory his grandson, Trevon Jones; a devoted sister-in-law, Sharon Cain; brother-in-law, Willie King; three aunts, Hattie Jeter, Mary Shields of Winston Salem and Hazel Lyerly of Philadelphia, PA; and a very devoted lifetime friend, Vicki Gordon. He will be sorely missed by his five nieces and six nephews, Tonjua King, Tawanna King (Payton), Kimberly Barr (Anthony), Leia Cain Cooper (Briama), Ashleigh Cain Foltz (Eric), Gregory Cain, Christopher Bailey (Tammie), Michael Jones, Randell Cain, Jr. (Cynthia), Mark Bailey and Phillip Bailey. His memory will be cherished by his great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00noon Thursday, January 25, 2024 at The Albert H. Anderson Conference Center, McNeil Banquet Hall, 1545 Reynolds Park Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Thursday at the Anderson Center.
