Mr. William Henry Cain Jr., 82, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2008. He was born August 26, 1926 in Winston-Salem to William Henry Cain Sr. and Hattie Williams Cain. He attended the public schools of Forsyth County.
He was a retired employee of the Winston-Salem Journal.
Henry lived a quiet life with integrity made complete by a special love and devotion to his family and sincere respect and devotion to friendship. He thrived as a great cook and took great pride in feeding everyone that came to his home.
Mr. Cain was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Owens Cain; daughter, Norma Cain Jones; great-grandson, Master Christopher D. Bailey Jr.; brother, Julius Montgomery Cain; two sisters, Ardell Cain Roane and Annie Cain Jacobs.
Rich with fond recollections and happy memories are his devoted family of six children, Ruby O. Cain, Randell A. (Sharon) Cain Sr., Gloria C. (Willie) King, William H. Cain III, all of Winston-Salem; Margaret C. (Johnnie) Bailey of Greensboro; and Malcolm E. (Carolyn) Cain of Catonsville, Md.
He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Gregory C. Cain, Michael D. Jones, Kimberly J. (Anthony) Barr, Randell A. (Cynthia) Cain Jr., and Tashika M. Lopez of Winston-Salem; Mark K. Bailey and Phillip M. Bailey of Greensboro; Tonjua L. King of Conyers, Ga.; Christopher D. (Tammie) Bailey of Riverside, Fl.; Tawanna L. King of Alexandria, Va.; Leia D. Cain and Ashleigh M. Cain of Catonsville, Md.; 11 great grandchildren, Kourtney Jones, Michael Jones Jr., Kamryn Barr, Kyndall Barr, Timeka Couthen, Trecious Couthen, Hamilton Cain, Grant Cain, Olivia Cain, Victoria Cain, and Preston Cain. Four great-great grandchildren shared his latter years, Janiyah McGill, Jada Couthen, Jaylan Couthen and Ja'Bray Couthen; three sisters, Hattie (Coleman) Jeter and Mary (Theodore) Shields of Winston-Salem; and Hazel Lyerly of Philadelphia, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; godson, Willie J. Mason; son-in-law, Arthur Jones; and special friends, Al Eaton, Fred Gethers and Paul Hawkins and the entire Slater Park Community.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2008 at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Kendall D. Jones Sr., officiating and the Reverend Randell A. Cain Jr., eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church
