Obituary

William Clement "Diamond" Boyce was born February 18, 1931 to the late Clement Owens and Emma Tate Boyce. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 25, 2019.

He was born in Winston-Salem, NC and had resided in this city all his life. He worked for several companies over his life span – Hanes Hosiery, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, McLean Trucking Company, and the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem until his retirement. He was a master carpenter and wood craftsman. If you could dream it, he could build it for you. He married Theopya Webber Broadnax in 1956 and became the immediate father of two little boys, Chuckie and Tyrone and soon a daughter, Corvette.

In the early 1960's he was one of the original founding members of the "Air King Rescue Squad," the first African American civil defense organization certified in the state of North Carolina providing ambulance service, search and rescue, and emergency services to the black community of Winston-Salem.

He lost his wife to heart disease in 1980 and he was alone for several years. He often said God was preparing him for his new wife who came to him in the present of "Artenia" on July 8, 1995. He dedicated his life to the Lord and strived to live a life of faith, love, and stewardship.

Including his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Preston & Franklin Boyce; and two sons, Chuckie and Tyrone Broadnax. He leaves to cherish loving memories his devoted wife, Artenia Boyce; a sister, Gloria (Raymond) Boston; a brother, John Boyce; one son, Stephone (Sandra) Samuels; three daughters, Corvette (Arthur) Williamson, Alison (Michael) Westbrook, and Areatha Glenn; nineteen grandchildren, Jermaine McEachern, Toya Boyce, Nihya (Clark) Russell, Amanda (Dolphus) Troy, Derrick (Jasmine) Gibson, Arthur Williamson, Jr., Crystal & Tia Broadnax, Shenelle Carter, Michael, Michala, & Mia Westbrook, Patricia & Bobbie Glenn, and Gloria, Christiana & Stephone Samuels, Jr., and Rashawn & Lamar Edmond; twenty great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends.

He was a loving and faithful member of Middle Fork Christian Church and loved his church family.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Middle Fork Christian Church.  Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
