Obituary

It is doubly sweet, as the close of a well spent life, to turn one's face toward the sunset and quietly sink into the rest knows no waking except in the presence of God. God called his faithful servant home early Sunday morning, February 3, 2019.

William Washington Blackburn Glenn, Sr., also known as "Bip", was born November 18, 1945 to the late Ada B. Glenn and William W. Blackburn.

William was educated in public schools in Winston-Salem, NC. He was a retired employee of Hanes Corporation and former employee of Bridges Furniture Company.

Early in life he took the title of "big brother" very seriously aiding his mother in rearing his siblings. His hobbies were working on cars, lawn work and an avid listener of country music.

William was raised in a Christian home and committed his life to Christ at an early age. As a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church, he was a member of the Youth Sunday School Class, Youth Choir, BTU, Youth Missionary Group and Youth Usher Board, the Layman League, Senior Ministry Voluntary for Christian Service and Senior Usher Board. William was presented with a plaque of recognition in 2018 for his service as an usher at New Bethel Baptist Church.

William was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Glenn; a sister, Cora E. Jarvis; and a sister-in-law, Pamela Henry.

William fought the good fight of faith and the impact he had on others will be marked forever. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Janice Henry Glenn; daughter, DeRhonda (Rodney) Smart; son, William W.B. Glenn, Jr.; sisters, Rev. Mary (Rev. Robert) Coleman, Brenda Witherspoon; brother, Carl L. Glenn, Sr.; aunt, Daisy Blackburn; sister-in-law, Sandra H. Jackson; brothers-in-law, Harold Henry and Andrew (Rev. Joshcline) Henry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, February 8, 2019 at New Bethel Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
