Wilbert Brewton was born September 9, 1919 in Hazlehurst, Georgia to the late Estella and Kellie Brewton. After a long illness he departed this life June 18, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Wilbert was affectionately known as "Brewton" to family and friends. He owned the 966 Club in Newark, NJ and lived in Springfield, NJ until 1990 when he retired to Winston-Salem, NC. He was a member of the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where he volunteered with the Meals-on-Wheels program. He also participated with the American Legion in Winston-Salem, NC.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marie Brewton.
Wilbert is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Brewton-Haynes; his son, Donald Brewton and wife, Shirley Brewton; two granddaughters, Ashleigh Haynes and Nateka Brewton; cousin, Catherine Barnhill-Lange of Florida; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Cotton Funeral Home, Newark, NJ. Interment will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, NJ. Cotton Funeral Home of Newark, NJ are in charge of service and arrangements.
