Ms. Warnetta Serina Eccles, 67, of 3860 Sawyer Street, was born on August 1, 1957, to Willis Wharton Eccles and Cerento Martin Eccles in Winston-Salem, NC. She passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist.
Warnetta attended Carver High School through the 10th grade. She graduated from East Forsyth High School. She later earned a certificate in administrative skills. She also typed more than 89 words per minute. Her struggles with her health began in her teens. For many years she worked at Lucent (AT&T) Technologies. Later, she was employed by Baptist Hospital in the grant offices department for 10 years. Warnetta was a lifetime member of Carver Road Church
of Christ. There she taught Sunday School to children, vacation bible school, and prepared communion.
Warnetta loved her brothers and cousins. The households of Wharton and Smith Eccles, identical twins, were especially close and had many escapades together. Their fathers were always trying to confuse the children as to who was whom, usually it didn't work. As other generations were born, Warnetta called them, "my babies". She would try to sneak them out the door under her coat. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews. Every summer she and Cerento would treat them to Celebration Station. Warnetta loved flowers, and they would help her to plant these flowers every spring.
Warnetta was preceded in death by her parents, Willis W. Eccles, Sr. and Cerento Martin Eccles.
She leaves behind precious memories. She is survived by her brothers, Willis (Tamra) Eccles, Jr. of Walkertown, NC and Albert Eccles of the home; niece, Danielle Eccles Wright (Curtis) of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Brandon Eccles and Michael Eccles both of Walkertown, NC and Cornell Eccles of the home; aunt, Bennie Martin of Clemmons, NC; and a host of cousins and friends.
With God's help, family, and friends, Warnetta battled her health most of her life. Her miracle came on July 4, 1986, with a kidney transplant. She wanted to stay with us, but God said it was time to rest. Asleep and at peace she looked.
