Mr. Walter Pone, Sr., 49, known as "the Rolla, Pimpin, G-Money, Lil Richard, Daddy, and Pop-Pop" was born on March 16, 1971 in Philadelphia, PA to Betty Jean Shepard and Fisher Pone, Sr. Shortly afterward, he moved to Gary, Indiana and was raised by his uncle John Lee Pennix and Aunt Ruth. During his life he resided in many places such as Camden, NJ, Martinsburg, WV, Beckley, WV, and Winston-Salem, NC. He was called home unexpectedly by the Lord on August 20, 2020.

Walter is remembered as a strong, loving, soft, caring man who loved music with a passion and would do anything for everybody.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents; Betty Jean and Fisher Pone, Sr.; parents, John Lee and Ruth; stepfather, Jeffrey; siblings, Teressa, Wanda, Priscilla, Lavoris, and Dennis; uncle, Rock; aunt, Mary; nephew, Kris; niece, Takenna; former spouse and lifelong friend, Monique; and other relatives and friends.

Left to cherish beautiful memories are his wife, Peggy Pone; his children Sherron, Quamere (Natasha), James, Lavelle, Jamel, Tiara, Walter, Jr., Brittany (Alvin), Michael, and Erica (Cameron); former spouse and lifelong friend, Renita Ammons; his siblings, James (Nichet), Fisher (Karen), Manny, William, Maria (Mark), Renee, Linda, Brenda, Audrey, Roslyn, and April (Curtis); and numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, August 28, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
