Obituary

Walter Lee Miles was born October 13, 1931 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Lindsey Miles and Zura Miles McFarland. He graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem in 1949. He then attended NC Agricultural & Technical State University.

He worked for McLean Trucking Company until his retirement. He was affiliated with the Masonic Temple in Winston-Salem and a member of the Cyclops Social Club. He was also a dedicated member of the Winston Lake YMCA. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was also a great dancer and loved to travel.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lindsay Miles, Jr. and Joseph Miles; and his son, Gregory Miles.

He leaves to cherish many dear and precious memories, his wife of 49 years, Barbara Miles; four sons, Wesley (Louise), Sherman, Walter LeRon (Janel), and Earl: daughters, Carolyn, Waltina (Kenneth), and Elaine; step-children, Veronica and Eugene; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC.
