Obituary

Wallace Hazel Hasty, affectionately known as Hazel to his friends and " Pa Pa " to his grands, was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His journey began on August 19, 1932 in Marshville , North Carolina to Hurley and Theresa Hasty. He departed this life on December 5, 2007 .

Wallace received Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very early age. He joined and was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte , North Carolina for many years.

Wallace attended West Charlotte High School in Charlotte , North Carolina . While in high school, he enjoyed playing football. After graduation he joined the United States Army Reserve and later served active duty in England , France , Germany and Korea . He served his country proudly and obtained the rank of Sergeant. After serving active duty, he returned to Charlotte to be with his family.

In Charlotte , Wallace worked for AT & T for 22 years as a component tester and later for Modine, Inc. until he retired. He was a life long learner with many interests - attended Carver College and Johnson C. Smith University, was an artist and loved reading and listening to jazz. Wallace was a jack of trades, had a passion for tinkering with automobiles and a real soft spot for general motors cars. His gift of being mechanically inclined resulted in his successful completion of the design and construction of a car. Wallace was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was a quiet, easy going, fun loving individual who displayed an attitude of pride in his work and country along with courage, and strength.

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Hurley and Theresa Hasty, and brothers, Jesse and Glenn Hasty.

He leaves to cherish his memories two loving daughters, Melissa Hasty Taylor (David) of High Point, North Carolina and Teresa Hasty Ray of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Myrtle Cobb of New York, New York and Ruth Muldrow of Charlotte, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Cedra Melissa Russell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Chloe Jade Russell of Durham, North Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A public viewing service will be held at Long & Son Mortuary Service, 2312 Beatties Ford Road , Charlotte , North Carolina on Sunday, December 9, 2007 , 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 12:15 pm Monday, December 10, 2007 at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church , 4725 Beatties Ford Road , Charlotte , North Carolina with Dr. C. Don Steger officiating. Interment will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery , Salisbury , North Carolina . In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Western Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC.
