IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vonetta Juanita
Wheeler Brannon
February 3, 2025
Celebrating the Life of Vonetta Juanita Wheeler Brannon
A Legacy of Love, Faith, and Family
Vonetta Juanita Wheeler Brannon, born on March 3, 1938, filled the world with love and joy from the very beginning. As the youngest child of Robert G. Wheeler and Estelle Woody Wheeler, she grew up in a lively, love-filled home alongside her three siblings. Her childhood was one of adventure, laughter, and the kind of family bonds that only deepened over time.
Vonetta's heart found its perfect match in Joseph Brannon, Sr., the love of her life. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising four wonderful children—Rhonda Denise Brannon Scales, Anita Jo Brannon Phillips, Allison Vonetta Brannon, and Joseph Brannon, Jr. Though they have since passed, their presence and love remain deeply woven into Vonetta's life, their memories cherished by all who knew them.
She shared an unbreakable bond with her two surviving siblings, Oliver L. Wheeler, Sr., and Montana Wheeler Davis, both of Winston-Salem. Their connection was filled with strength, laughter, and unwavering support. The memory of their eldest brother, Robert "Sonny" E. Wheeler, remains a treasured part of their family's story.
Vonetta's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren—Corey Scales of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jade Phillips Joyner (Daniel) of Raleigh, N.C.; Shelby Phillips of Charlotte, N.C.; and Dataja Brannon and Asia Brannon of Winston-Salem. They were the light of her life, and she took immense pride in each of them. Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her four great-grandchildren, Aiko, Ellis, Namiko, and Loren, who brought even more joy and laughter into her world.
Family wasn't just defined by blood for Vonetta—it was about love. Her son-in-law, Percy Phillips, remained a cherished part of her life, embodying the true meaning of family even after the passing of his beloved wife, Anita. And her daughter-in-love, Dorothy, was more than a caregiver—she was a dear friend, sharing love, laughter, and companionship through the years.
Vonetta had a way of making everyone feel special. Her kind heart, radiant spirit, and warm smile left an imprint on every life she touched. She was a woman of faith, love, and boundless generosity, and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
As we say goodbye, we take solace in knowing she is now reunited with those she loved, in a place where joy never fades. Vonetta's legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, reminding us always to cherish family, embrace laughter, and spread kindness wherever we go.
