Virginia E. Porter Thomas, affectionately known as "Jenny", was born June 17, 1945 in Surry County, NC to John Ray Porter and Opal Hayes Porter.  She departed this life on Friday, August 28, 2020.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, James Andrew Thomas, Jr.; and three brothers, twins- Jerry Porter and Roy W. Porter, and Johnny Charles Porter.

She is survived by one daughter, Priscilla Jean Porter; one son, Kinard Dwayne Thomas; three grandchildren, Virginia Lakay Hardy, Jamere Devion Thomas, and Jaiden Dwayne Thomas; sister, Lousie Kimber of Charlotte, NC; uncle, Minister Robert Nelson (Nellie) Hayes of Charlotte, NC; aunt, Jessie Carson Hayes of Elkin, NC; four sisters-in-law, Faye L. Porter of Mocksville, NC, Bernice Tuttle, Donice (Clifton) Lindsay, and Linda Smith all of the Midway Community, NC; brother-in-law, Henry (Rachel) Thomas; two nieces, Debra Turner and Donna Redmond of Charlotte, NC; five nephews, Ronald (Freda) Redmond of Mocksville, NC, Daryl Redmond of Elkin, NC, Joseph Redmond of Atlanta, GA, Roy Porter of Mocksville, NC, and Timothy Hayes of Midway, NC; and a host of cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, September 4, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020. Interment will follow in the St. Home Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Elkin, NC.
