Mrs. Viola Robbins Hairston, 87, was born December 7, 1934.  She passed away quietly at her home on Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2022.  She was the oldest daughter of the late Eugene Crump and Mary Robbins Brown.

She attended Atkins High School and worked at Industries for the Blind as a Quality Control Inspector from which she retired from.  Mrs. Hairston was a member of Union Bethel AME Church where she was a faithful member of the Missionary Society Board. She loved the church and members as a church family.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, worshipping in the church, and watching her progeny grow in faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mondell F. Hairston; son, Mondell F. Hairston, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Javaris Hairston and La'Shana Robbins.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Viola gave her love freely and unconditionally.

She is survived by her children, Davette Robbins, Valarie Robbins, Trina (Ian) Forrest, Jennifer (Jimmy) Reid, Staccato Robbins, Viveta Hairston, Mondella Hairston, and Kevin (Jennifer) Robbins; she was the matriarch of 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Eloise Robbins of High Point, NC; a very special niece and nephew, Yolanda Blakes and Floyd Jackson, III; many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12noon Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Avenue Winston-Salem, NC 27101.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 11:30am until 12noon on Friday at the Chapel.

The family wants to acknowledge the special support given to Viola by her caregivers, Denise Jenkins and Jasmine Cornell of A Touch of Care and innumerable friends, neighbors, and church members.
