Vernice E. Hardy Westmoreland of 5921 Summertrace Lane, affectionately known as "Nesse", departed this life on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at her home after an extended period of illness. She was born March 4, 1956 to Iveria Hardy Shuler of W-S, NC and John Powell of Clemmons, NC.
Vernice E Hardy Westmoreland was educated in W-S/Forsyth County School System and employed with Northwest Child Development Center for over 30 years. She was baptized and received her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age while attending Mars Hill Baptist Church with her grandmother, the late Mrs. Annie Bell Hardy, whom was a major contributor to her life development.
Vernice E Hardy Westmoreland was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Hardy, Annie Bell Hardy, and Flossie Powell Richardson; an uncle, William F. Hardy; an aunt, Lillie Mae Allen; special nephew, Jermaine L Oakes; as well as two special cousins whom she was reared with, Johnny and Tyrone "Nick" Hardy.
Vernice E Hardy Westmoreland leaves to cherish loving memories her husband, Darryl Westmoreland of the home; her daughter, Shamika LyVette Hardy of Lewisville, NC; her son, Stephon Fitzgerald Hardy of W-S, NC; her parents, John H. (Deborah) Powell of Clemmons, NC and Iveria Hardy Shuler of W-S, NC; twelve grandchildren, two of the home, Marquis Hardy and Zion Hardy; six brothers, Jackie Hardy, David (Gyda) Oakes, Charlie, Linard and Kinard Oakes all of W-S, NC, and John Powell, Jr. of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Barbara (Anthony) Brown and Mona Oakes of W-S, NC, and April Powell of Chicago, IL; a cousin who was like a sister, Brenda A. Roebuck; three special aunts, Annie Hardy Davis, Mattie Hardy, and Ida Cathey all of W-S, NC; a great uncle, George Hardy of Gaffney, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Alice Faye Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 10am until 11am on Saturday at the funeral home.
