Vernell Hampton, 68 was born to Johnnie Keller and Mabel Hampton Keller on June 22, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC. After a brief illness she was summoned to her heavenly home on July 21, 2008.

She was educated in the public schools in Winston-Salem, NC and graduated from the Title Five Program as a Lab Technician and hired at Kate B. Reynolds Hospital. She was transferred to Forsyth Medical Center where she was a faithful and dedicated employee for 39 years.

Vernell was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister; and her son, Clinton Hampton.

Those who survive to forever cherish her memories are her two daughters, Sheran D. Hampton of Raleigh, NC and Robbin L. Hampton of the home; her granddaughter, Jameilia L. Wright of the home; a great-grandson, William Rodney Ross, Jr. of the home; three sisters, Eyvonnia Wright of Washington, DC, Johnnie M. Henderson and Claudette Keller both of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Leary Keller of Detroit, MI; a lifetime beloved friend, Albert Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1pm Saturday, July 26, 2008 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers all donations please be sent to the Sickle Cell Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
