Mr. Vernal Pender, Sr., son of the late Bradley and Beaulah Mae Crawford Pender was born August 26, 1943 in Anderson County, North Carolina.  He departed this life on Friday, September 8, 2023 at his home.

He attended the Forsyth County Public Schools and served in the United States Army.

Vernal, Sr. was affectionally called "Paul" by his business partners and "Von Lee" by his family.  He was blessed to have two sons, the late Wayne Pender and Vernal Pender, Jr. and their mother, Gwendolyn Pender.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Wayne Pender; sisters, Yvette Pender and Mae Della Fowler; and brothers, Robert and Tommy Pender.

Mr. Pender was an avid bowler where he served on leagues for over 10 years.  He was employed with Wachovia Bank where he began his love for printing.  After retiring from Wachovia, that is currently, Wells Fargo, he birthed West End Printing.  At West End Printing, he provided meticulous printing projects for Winston-Salem State University.

His life will forever be cherished by his son, Vernal "Junior" (Beverly) Pender of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Cameron Pender of Chesapeake, VA, Kendra Fisher of Greensboro, NC, and Kristen Scriven of Winston-Salem, NC; his wife, Gwendolyn Pender; two brothers, Johnny (Frances) Pender and Bradley (Jackie) Pender; sister-in-law, Randon Pender all of Winston-Salem, NC; brother-in-law, Ben Stevenson of St. Augustine, FL;  along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Monday, September 18, 2023 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Hash officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Monday at the Church.
