Obituary

Verdie G. Morris was known by most people as an entrepreneur, leader, trendsetter, and the trailblazer that pioneered Little People's University Daycare, the first 24-hour Daycare in the city of Winston-Salem and the surrounding area. She also owned Verdie's Grill, Eastside Grocery Store, Verdie's Consignment Shop and Alicia's Grocery Store. But not only was she an entrepreneur, she was an amazing wife, mother, sister, friend, grandmother, great grandmother, and teacher, to all. She had a heart for people and always went out of her way to help and support. You could always count on Ms. Verdie to help you find a way. She would always say, "you are can do all things through Christ who strengthens you."

Verdie Gore Morris "Ms.Verdie," as people knew her, was the daughter of the late Mamie Davis Gore and John Wesley Gore Sr. She was born on July 1, 1939 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and transitioned to glory to see her heavenly father, husband, brothers and mother on August 10, 2022 at Forsyth Court in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Ms. Verdie was married to the late Louis Morris Jr. for over 45 years and from this union, 3 children were born. She was educated at Atkins High School and Winston-Salem State University. She was a long-time member of Kimberly Park Holiness Church and serviced for many years as a faithful choir member, choir director, play writer, and on the mother's board.

Dedicated, and truly devoted to her family, Ms. Verdie planned and pioneered the start of the "Gore Family Thanksgiving Dinner Tradition."  She was known for her love of celebrating with her family. She was enthusiastic and always excited about cookouts, family get togethers, birthdays, and Christmas celebrations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Morris, Jr.; and three brothers, Joe Nathan Gore, Willie Gore, and John Wesley Gore.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Alicia (Marquise) Bailey of Davidson County and Felicia (Darryl) Crouch of Clemmons, NC; one son, Louis Morris, III of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Louis Morris, IV, Raven Jones, Lauryn Morris, Grayson Crouch, and Cameron Crouch; one great grandchild, Marion Parks; two sisters, Iris (Talmadge) Alexander of Winston-Salem and Pamela (Mark) Hall of Haymarket, VA: five brothers, Clarence (Fanetta) Gore, Donald (Mary) Gore, Charles Gore, Solomon Gore, and David Gore of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
