Our beloved Mother, Mrs. Verdell Epps Price, at the age of ninety, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at home.  She was surrounded by her family as she transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life in the early morning hours.

She was born April 11, 1932, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Eunice J. and Gertrude E. Epps; her husband, Lonnie L. Price, Sr.; daughter, Ethel V. Price; sister, Lillie Simmington; and her son-in-law, Alphonso Capers, Sr.

She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Atkins High School.  Her favorite hobby in her younger days was to create a tailored made outfit for herself.  She was a great seamstress.  She was a housewife until the youngest of her six children started school.  Then she went to work at Western Electric (Lucent Technology) until she retired with 25 years of service.  She was a faithful member at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. She took pleasure in worshiping God and fellowshipping with her church family until her declining health.

She was married to her late husband, Lonnie L. Price, Sr., for forty-nine years. She remained devoted to her husband even after his death.

Without question, Verdell was the loving figure in the lives of her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She was the light in their eyes. She shared her God given love with them. Her hugs and unconditional love were her life and character.  Her family was her life.  Her lasting memories of being a loving person will always be cherished memories by her family and those that knew her.  She will truly be missed by her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Cassandra Epps Capers and Deborah Epps Shivers; her sons, Lonnie L. Price, Jr., Reginald (Joy) Price, and Horace J. Price; her seventeen grands; twelve great-grands; one great-great-grand; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, January 20, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Chapel.
