Obituary

Vera Johnson Johnson, 91, was born to the late George Johnson, Sr. and the late Emma Mae Brown Johnson on December 20, 1919 in Newberry, SC. She departed this life on October 4, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Vera completed her early education in Thomasville, NC. The family relocated to W-S, NC where she graduated from Atkins High School, "Class of 1938" and continued her education at Kate Bitting School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.
She was married to the love of her life, the late Lorenza Johnson. For over fifty years, "Punch and Punchie" as they affectionately called each other, were truly blessed with a wonderful marriage.
She was a member of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Anytime she was asked to serve she did so willingly and faithfully. In the community, she was Past President of the Montrose Avenue Community Club and the Yadmon Pinocle Club. She loved traveling and was very dedicated to her family, church, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings.
Vera leaves to cherish loving memories her daughter, Shirley Bishop; granddaughter, Candace Bishop; devoted nephews, Danny (Alice) Johnson of High Point, NC, Hansel (Leatta) Johnson of Sacramento, CA, Reverend Anthony (Val) Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC and Tyrone Johnson of Detroit, MI; devoted nieces, Angelina Gallant of Detroit, MI and Tamara Baldwin of Orlando, FL; a special friend, Edward Allen; God-children, CO.CPT David (Andria) Brown, III of Houston, TX and Cherita (Michael) Irving of Kernersville, NC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, October 10, 2011 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Prince Raney Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
