Mrs. Valine Stevenson Banner, 89, of 268 Elm Drive departed this life on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 29, 1918 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late James W. Stevenson and Louise Bailey Stevenson. She was married to the late Elmer Frances Banner for 62 years.
Mrs. Banner was a retired employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System as a Cafeteria Manager. She was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess and served on the Usher Board. Mrs. Banner was an avid cook and caterer for many years. She precedes in death her eldest son Vernon A. Banner.
She leaves to cherish her legacy three daughters: Sharyn Caldwell, of the home, Cathy (Richard) Wood, and Beverly (Roger) Whitsett of Winston-Salem, NC; a son, Kenneth (Ann) Banner of Greensboro, NC; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, two sisters: Irene Kirkland of Washington, DC and Estelle Conway of Buffalo, NY; a daughter-in-law, Lillian (Bea) Banner; four devoted nieces: Jackie Booe, Catherine Crawford, Patricia Miller, and Roslyn Stevenson; a devoted nephew, Nelson Petree and host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 1:00pm at Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Chad Armstrong officiating. Entombment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1:00pm on Tuesday at the church.
