Valerie Diane McArthur Rowles was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC on September 23, 1953. On Sunday, November 21, 2021 God called her home to come home to be with him.

She was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools graduating from Atkins High School, Class of 1971. School activities included Student Council, yearbook staff and drama club. Ms. Rowles received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Fayetteville State University and her Master of Arts in Mass Communications from Norfolk State University.

Valerie was raised in Ambassador Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop F.D. Patterson, Sr. and was a faithful choir member.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother.

Ms. Rowles leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Hillary Rowles of Portsmouth, VA; son, Jonathan Rowles, of Sun Valley, NV; four grandchildren, Emery, Rion, Jonathan and Luna; two nephews, Anthony McArthur, Jr. (Angela) and Christopher McArthur (Diane) of the city; a loving cousin, Chandra Sherrill of the city; two adopted children, Mary and Edward Cross of Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, December 17, 2021 at Ambassador Cathedral, Inc. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 12:30pm on Friday at the Church.
