Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:7-8

Deacon Ulysses Shuler was born on November 28, 1943, to the late Hezekiah and Lurline Shuler in Orangeburg, South Carolina. With an attitude of worship and adoration, he lifted his arms and went to sleep in heavenly peace on October 3, 2024.

Deacon Shuler relocated to Winston Salem, North Carolina, shortly after graduating from Orangeburg Wilkinson High School. On December 6, 1969, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Albertinnia Arnette Shuler. To this union, one child, Teaquoise was born. He was employed by the City of Winston-Salem and retired after thirty-five years.

Deacon Shuler loved the Lord and loved serving the Lord. He was an active member of Zion Memorial Missionary Baptist Church for forty years. This is also the ministry where he was ordained to serve as a Deacon. In addition to his responsibilities as Deacon, he served as Sunday School Superintendent, on the Pastor's Aide and in the Sympathy Club.

Deacon Shuler united with First Waughtown Baptist Church while they were still worshipping in "the Old Sanctuary". He was an anointed singer and loved singing praises to God. His rich, melodious voice blessed many hearts while leading songs with the Senior Choir or harmonizing with the other voices in the congregation. He especially loved to sing "Christ is All". He and his wife also found great joy participating in the Seniors and Retirees ministry and traveling to the annual mountain trip with them.

Deacon Shuler's natural ability for mentoring was unquestionable. He was actively involved in the lives of young men in his workplace, his neighborhood and in his church family. He impacted generations and this is reflected upon as an integral part of his legacy. Deacon Shuler cherished both his immediate and his large extended family. His cousins were as close to him as his siblings. He could often be found preparing his signature dishes and delicious meals for family gatherings. In addition to his parents, Deacon Shuler was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnnie, Claude and Laverne.

To this legacy of love, he leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of fifty-five years, Albertinnia Arnette Shuler; daughter, Teaquoise (Greg) Lindsay; grandchildren, Bria Lindsay and Brandon Lindsay; one brother, Bennie Shuler; god son, Min. Timothy Simmons of Lilburn, GA.; two sisters-in-law, Ella Shuler and Elaine Jackson; two brothers-in-law, Norvell (Linda) Arnette and James (Paulette) Arnette; loving nephews, Laverne Shuler, Jr., Tywarren (LaQuita) Jackson of Huntsville, AL, and Bobby Jackson, Jr.; nieces, Chastity (Christopher) Donathan, Samantha (Nautica) Shuler, Shavone (Markiss) Hines, Adrienne (Eric) Thompson-Toney of Baltimore, MD, Tonya Arnette, Tomeka Jackson-Hooper, Rhonda (David) Thornton, LaQueeta (Dedrick) Roseboro, Chantale Hawkins and Yolanda (Rodney) Boston; special friend of 60+ years, Johnny Moses; his special daughters and sons and countless special cousins, family and friends.
