Timothy Bernard Burns, age 62, affectionately known to family and friends as "Tim", went home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Tim was born on April 16, 1960 to the late Willie Lee and Julia Colon Burns in Albemarle, NC.

Tim attended the local public schools, and was employed by the City of Winston-Salem in the Parks and Recreation Department until his health declined.

Tim loved life, and enjoyed cooking on the grill and spending time with family and friends. He loved people and everyone loved him for his kindness, conversation, and sense of humor.

Tim was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he was appointed by the late Pastor James Linville to lead the Security Ministry. He loved his church and his Pastor.

In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Ross Hawkins; grandson, Joshua Eshawn Hawkins; his wife, Stephanie Jenkins Burns; his brothers, Walter Lee, John Lee, Monte Ervin, and Jeffery Andre Burns.

Those family members who survive and will forever cherish fond memories of his life include his four loving daughters, Alisha Swepson, Ericka Hawkins, Malorie Hawkins and Kayla Hawkins; four sisters, Julia Burns Martin, Linda Chambers, Cassandra Burns, both of Memphis, TN, and Priscilla Burns; four brothers, Thomas, Carl (Roxie), Myron Burns, and Donnie Davis (Carla) of Indianapolis, IN ; a special and devoted friend, LaDawn Brown; sisters-in-law, Cynthia S. Burns, Margaret W. Burns and Blondie L. Burns; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a loyal and devoted friend, Patrick (Bubba) Cobbins; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: And not to me only, but unto all them that love His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Monday, September 26, 2022 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Vivian Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Monday at the Church.
