Thressa Correll Witherspoon of Winston-Salem, NC departed this life on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
She was born March 13, 1929 to Vance and Beatrice Correll. Thressa was the 2nd of 16 children and was raised in the Piney Grove Community.
Thressa was a 1950 graduate of Carver High School and was a graduate of Star's Business School. Thressa retired from ILCO Unican (a company of Stewart Warner) as a machine operator with over 30 years of service. After her official retirement she went to work at Experience Self Reliance (ESR) part-time as a Senior Citizen Home Health Aide. She also worked as a daycare assistant at Maggie's Daycare.
On November 21, 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Earl Witherspoon, Sr. To this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Linda and son, Earl, Jr. She was the proud grandmother of Teramus and Christina, and the great-grandmother of Isaiah and Lauren.
Thressa was a long-time and devoted member of Carver Road Church of Christ where she served on the Bereavement Committee and the Baptismal Committee. She was former President of the Morningside Community Flower Club and was a poll worker at her local precinct for many years.
Thressa was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Witherspoon, Sr.; her parents, Vance C. Correll and Beatrice M. Correll; brothers, Vance, Willam, Bobby, Kennard, Dwight, and Edward Correll; and her sisters, Margaret Branson, Vandelia Green, Marion Wofford, and Ruby Charles.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Linda Little and son, Earl Witherspoon, Jr. both of Winston-Salem, NC; grandson, Teramus Little of Woodlawn, MD; granddaughter, Christina (Isaiah) Thomas of Winston-Salem, NC; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Thomas, Jr. and Lauren Thomas; brother, Johnny Correll; sisters, Alice Hawkins, Mary Williams, Veronica (Isiah) Black, and Sylvia (Lorenzo) Martin all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, December 4, 2023 at Carver Road Church of Christ with Brother Jefferson Carruthers officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
