Obituary
Thomas Robert Taylor, 86 passed away peacefully May 22, 2008 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury, North Carolina. Thomas was born on June 17, 1922 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Evelyn Hairston Gilmore and Fletcher Gilmore.
He attended Atkins High School, earned a Master's Degree from Shaw University, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC from his youth until his death.
Following college he served in the Air Force and retired after serving more than 22 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his devoted wife of 41 years, Louise Payne Taylor; and one daughter, Velma Ree Melton.
He is survived by a daughter, Janice Evelyn Wells (Rufus, Sr.) of Winter Garden, FL; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Wallace of Wildwood, FL; four grandchildren, Regina (Terence) Vermont of Bridgeport, CT; Therasa (Prentice) Frazier of Atlanta, GA; Crystal (Michael Lee) Cook of Tyrone, GA, and Rufus Wells, Jr. of East Hartford, CT; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Noon Thursday, May 29, 2008 from the Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours for Mr. Taylor will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Russell Funeral Home.
