Mr. Thomas Lee Moncrief, 77, departed this earthly life after a brief period of illness on April 16, 2026 at the VA Hospice in Salisbury NC. He was the son of the late John and Christine Moncrief.
“Tommy”, better known as “Moncrief” or “Tommy” was a product of Happy Hill Gardens and was the second oldest out of four brothers and one sister. He loved his family even though he didn’t show it all the time. He graduated from Anderson High School of the WS/Forsyth County School System. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served a successful tour of duty overseas in Vietnam. Once returned, he started a successful window cleaning service and had many clients.
One of his favorite past times was shooting pool, where he was one of the cities best. He also enjoyed playing chess, golf, and was a professional caddie for a brief period. He was a funny character and would always crack jokes. There was never a dull moment when he was around. To know him was to love him. He loved hard candy and he loved to talk.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; John and Christine Moncrief; and 3 brothers, John, Billy, and Roy Moncrief.
Left to celebrate his life is one brother, Jerry (Juanita) Moncrief; one sister, Prophetess Cynthia Hill; sister-in-law, Debra Moncrief; a devoted niece, Shenae Moncrief; several nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; along with a devoted friend, Greg Nivens.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Monday, April 27, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Ministry for Christ. Interment will be held at 2:30pm in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Tuesday at the Church.
God saw that the road was getting rough, The hill was hard to climb
So, gently closed his loving eyes, And whispered peace be thine.
His weary hours, his days of pain, His sleepless nights are passed,
Tommy’s ever-patient worn out frame, Has found sweet rest at last.
