Thomas was a graduate of Notre Dame University, received his MBA from the University of Chicago and his Masters of Theological Studies from St. Norbert's College in Green Bay, WI.

He was a CPA with Ernst and Ernst of Chicago IL, Vice-President of Finance with Ariens Company in Brillion, WI and President of Gravely Inc. in Clemmons NC, a subsidiary of Ariens Company.  For many years he served on the board of directors for Bank Mutual of Milwaukee, WI and Plymouth Foam of Plymouth, WI.  Thomas was active as a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Mary Roma McHugh and Stephanie Therese Lopina; his sister, Mary Noyes; and brother, John Lopina.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Roma Maurer Lopina; sons, Thomas Joseph Jr. (Zoila), Andrew Joseph (Elizabeth), Joseph Jude (Colleen), Bartholomew Joseph (Annemarie), Philip Joseph (Heather), and Matthew Joseph (Erika); 20 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and brother, Lawrence (Marion) Lopina.

A funeral mass will be held 11am Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
