Mr. Thomas Junior Hairston was born April 14, 1926 to the late Thomas and Vera Imes Hairston in Clemmons, NC. He departed this life Sunday, September 21, 2014 after a long period of illness at Hospice of Davidson County in Lexington, NC.

Thomas was a veteran of World War II having served as an Army PFC Medic Aid Man. He attended Carver High School in W-S, NC. He was employed by Foltz Concrete Pipe Company until his retirement in 1987. He was an avid farmer and loved gardening.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Thomas Hairston, Jr. and Sextus Alexander Hairston; his brothers, Willie and Robert; and his sisters, Emma and Martha.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Bernice Leak Hairston; his children, Priscilla Hairston Hughley (Walter) of Atlanta, GA, Larry Hairston (Pearlenia) of W-S, NC, Bern Hairston (Freda) of Lexington, NC, Lawrence Hairston (Delma) of High Point, NC, Cynthia Hairston Vick (Terry) of Atlanta, GA, and Tida Williams (Sam) of W-S, NC; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his sister, Georgia Sparks of W-S, NC; brother-in-law, Raymond Leak (Sarah); sisters-in-law, Catherine Hughley, Hazel Speight, and Marie Leak; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Goodwill Baptist Church, 548 Goodwill Rd. Clemmons, NC. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Thursday at the Church.
