Obituary

The life of Thessalonia Bohannon Jenkins began in Winston-Salem, NC on February 28, 1924.  She was the offspring of the late Stedman and Laura Ann Payne Bohannon.

Her lifelong journey came to an earthly conclusion at Trinity Glen Nursing Home in Winston-Salem, NC on Sunday morning, May 29, 2022.  She was 98 years old.

Thessalonia was a 1941 graduate of Atkins High School.  She continued her education at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.  She received a certificate for Early Childhood Education in 1971 from Teachers College, now known as Winston-Salem State University.

Thessalonia married Frizzelle J. Jenkins in Beaufort, NC.  Thessalonia had two children, a son, Norman Jenkins and a daughter, Jerrilyn Ingram, now deceased.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stedman and Laura Ann Payne Bohannon; her siblings, Aaron L. Bohannon, Bernard Bohannon, Leander K. Bohannon, Hazel Bohannon, Russel Bohannon, Robert H. Moore, and Norman R. Moore.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Ford and Irene Smith; one granddaughter, Tessa Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Avanda Johnson; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, her Goddaughter, Linda, and many close friends.

After many years of dedicated service, she retired from Family Services as a supervisor for preschool children located on Wheeler Street in Winston-Salem, NC.

Mrs. Thessalonia Jenkins was an active member, loyal and supportive in many areas of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.  She served her church for a number of years in various capacities until her health began to fail.  She was a member of the Chapel Choir, Secretary of the Missionary Department, outstanding actor in the Drama Ministry, member of the Adult Sunday School Class, Secretary for many years of the Amanda Galloway Aid Society, the oldest group in the church.  The Lord gave her strength to be the church clerk under 2 pastors.

Those who were fortunate to have known our beloved, found her to be a warm, loving, and fun person with a great sense of humor, a caring person that loved music and loved to dance.

She never hesitated to offer a helping hand to people she knew or a call to someone to check on them.  She loved sending cards on special holidays, and she saved every card she received from family and friends that she read over and over again and proudly displayed.  Her concerns and dedication to her family and friends is legendary.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who touched many lives in very meaningful and lasting ways.  Deeply she will be missed.

Now after a well-lived life of sharing and giving to others, she was entered that realm of everlasting life.
