Mrs. Theresa Francina Bell Hanes passed away on Monday, March 12, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center after a courageous battle. A Forsyth County native, she was born on February 9, 1921, the daughter of Reverend Frank Bell and Rosie Lee Bell.
Theresa was a graduate of Atkins High School and retired from Wake Forest University in the House Keeping Department.
She joined Hanes Memorial CME Church and became a much loved member. Theresa served on the Stewardess Borad until her health began to fail. She served as treasurer of the Missionary Society, Church Announcer, a dedicated member of the Sunday School, and organist.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Reverend Thomas Eugene Hanes.
Those left to cherish her precious memories are her brother, Robert W. (Wilhelmina) Long; four great nieces, Jackie Hanes, Denise (Norvel) Smith, Lois Ann (John) Young, and Lizzie Anthony; two great-nephews, Norris (Faye) Hanes, Jr. and Reverend Thomas (Judie) Hanes; one sister-in-law, Lois S. Hanes; special friends, Betty Miller, Belle Rice, and Johnnie M. Woods; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 12:30 PM from the Hanes Memorial CME Church, 819 Highland Avenue with Reverend Ray Metcalf officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12 NOON until 12:30 on Saturday at the Church.
The family will assemble and leave from the home of her brother at 179 Beechwood Circle, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
