Theodore Calvin Fulp, Sr. was born to Amanda Murray Fulp and Cyrus Orren Fulp on December 12, 1925 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He graduated from the historical 14th Street Elementary School and the original Atkins High School in Winston-Salem. He attended the notorious Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. His oldest brother once told his granddaughter that Theodore was quite an academician and a mathematical genius. He served in the United States Marine Corps, obtaining the rank of corporal, primarily during the 1940's in the Pacific Islands handling gunner supplies.
Theodore, a/k/a "T.C.", courted and married Nancy McClain Fulp who affectionately called him "Thed." At her death in 2020, they had been married for 74 years. Theodore worked long hours on multiple jobs simultaneously for decades to ensure that his family's needs were always met. Notwithstanding the long hours, he always made it home in time to sit at the head of the dinner table with his wife and children around him. After decades, he retired as a custodial supervisor with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public School system.
Along with his wife and children, Theodore was a longtime member of Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He supported the diverse ministries including Ephesus Junior Academy where several of his grandchildren were students. He attended church faithfully while he and his wife were physically able; thereafter, he watched services online and looked forward to the elders coming to the home to participate in the ordinance of communion.
Theodore is revered as the last patriarch by not only his children but also many of those of his wife's family. They recall that he stepped forward to protect those who needed him to speak up for their health and wellbeing and who came to live in his home. He treated his wife and children with dignity, as though they were precious. He walked with authority, showing his son the true strength of a man and teaching his daughters how to walk proudly and what they should expect of their own mates when the time should come. Through his works, he manifested God's purpose and perfect will in his life. He was a reserved and quiet man of few words, but his actions were insightful, inspiring, and powerful, speaking volumes.
Theodore passed quite peacefully in sleep the morning of Saturday, December 7, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Nancy McClain Fulp; his son, Theodore Calvin Fulp, Jr.; his son-in-law, Wesley Frazier; also, his siblings and their spouses, William Leon (Charlotte) Fulp formerly of Asheville, NC, Olivia (W.
